Summer has finally arrived after what feels like a very dull June. Suddenly the temperatures have rocketed. Yesterday a weather app on my phoned showed it to be 32°C. How can we keep cool in the heat?? Fear not. I’m here to help!
When it gets hot here in Yorkshire it almost always seems to be sudden. One day it's jumpers and brolley then the next I'm searching for my shorts. So when the temperature ramps up we've not had chance to acclimatise we tend to stuggle more. Add that to the fact that we're not on holiday and we're busy or need to work then we quickly get frazzled. So how can we keep cool, calm and collected??? Here's a list of some of the easiest ways I find to stay chilled...

Wear light, loose fitting clothing. Natural fibres are best ie, cotton. Avoid wearing darker colours as these absorb the heat, instead wear lighter colours. There's a reason villas abroad are usually painted white - white reflects the heat.
Apply SPF and reappy when necessary. If you're out and about suncreams will not protect you all day. You will need to reappy for best protection.
Where possible keep out of the sun between 10am and 4pm is. This is when the sun is at its strongest.
Wear a hat and sunglasses.
Drink plenty of water. Drink plenty of water. Drink plenty of water. It is so important to keep hydrated at all times but during the hot weather we need more hydration to combat additional deyhdration.
Keep curtains, blinds and windows closed, especially when they are sun facing. Leaving windows closed sounds wrong but you're letting in the warm air, so it is best to close the windows and keep curtains or blinds closed so that the sun isn't shining in, heating the room. When the sun moves round later then opening the curtains a crack and window can let some fresh air in. It's odd walking around the house in the dark when it's so bright outside but at least it's keeping your house cooler which you'll appreciate when it comes to getting to sleep!
Pop your Toner in the fridge. This item from your skin care is great when chilled. Simply spritz your face for a quick cool down.
To cool down quickly simply run cold water over your wrists for a minute. Easy but effective.
If you have a fan running place a bowl in front of it with ice-cubes in. The fan will then blow the cold from the ice.
Enjoy it! Ours summers are never guaranteed to be hot and sunny so enjoy it when you can.
